WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT WOOL?

In a nutshell, it’s healthy and comfortable, and has wonderful thermal properties – keeping you warm in winter and yet cool in summer.

Wool helps your body maintain a more even temperature at night, because the fibres keep pockets of air close to your body, in a tiny micro-environment. The fibres then disperse heat and moisture from your body, again, helping give you a better night’s sleep.

The fibres of wool allow moisture to pass through without the wool itself becoming damp. That’s why a Woolrest BioMag mattress topper is healthy – mold and mildew will not form, in dry conditions. This of course is particularly important for people who have allergies.

Scientists at a Welsh Polytechnic ran a study which confirmed that wool helps keep your skin drier, and also lowers your heart rate. Plus, the thick pile in a Woolrest mattress pad naturally cushions the body, reducing the load on pressure points such as your hips and shoulders.

A study conducted on wool and sleep patterns at Monash University in Australia found that the amount of movement during a normal night's sleep is less, in comparison to the same people sleeping without wool on the bed – again, helping give a better night’s sleep.

WHAT ABOUT THE MAGNETS?

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK?

This depends on the individual. Often, it’s within a couple of weeks, although some people have told us they got relief from their pain on the first night! But most take longer, so it’s important to persevere.

And it can sneak up on you: other customers have told us they didn’t notice the benefit, until they took the BioMag off the bed, or slept in a bed without one, and noticed their pain was worse.

You may find that your body temperature may be raised slightly when you first put the BioMag on your bed, this is normal, and will be only temporary. Remember, 95 percent of users of BioMag products experience benefit.

IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH MY ELECTRIC BLANKET?

This is the question we are asked most often, and the answer is YES! Your BioMag mattress pad simply fits over the top. The simplest way to remember is: there should only be a sheet between you and your BioMag.

Occasionally, an electric blanket directly beneath a topper can cause it to move. If this happens, a thin blanket placed between them will stop it.

ARE MAGNETIC UNDERLAYS SAFE FOR EVERYONE?

If you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, or sleep with an insulin pump it is not recommended that you sleep on magnetic products. There has never been any evidence that magnetic therapy is harmful for pregnant women, but we prefer to err on the side of caution.

With pacemakers and insulin pumps, it is possible that the magnets could slow down the battery. People in these categories should instead be buying one of our beautiful Woolrest Fleece products which do not contain magnets.

ARE THERE ANY CLINICAL SIDE EFFECTS?

The World Health Organisation has concluded that no adverse side effects have been observed with the magnetic energy that Woolrest BioMag products use. However, you may like to drink more water for the first couple of weeks, as it can make you thirsty due to the improved blood circulation.

WILL IT AFFECT MY MEDICATION?

Drugs can become more effective because of your improved circulation, and may need to be reduced or even discontinued - hopefully, you will one day be drug-free! But you should always check with your doctor before making any changes to your medication.

WHAT SORT OF MAGNETS ARE USED IN THE BIOMAG TOPPERS?

We use unidirectional ferrite magnets, with the North, or Negative, pole on the side facing your body. This is the optimum layout when magnets are used for therapeutic reasons, as negative magnetic energy is the energy that heals. We offer a lifetime guarantee on our magnets. The strength will not noticeably diminish during your lifetime.

IS THERE A HALF-AND-HALF MAGNETIC UNDERLAY?

We have the perfect solution for couples where one partner wants a magnetic mattress pad, and the other partner prefers wool without the magnets: the 50/50 topper pad.

This is a Woolrest BioMag on one half, and a plain Woolrest double fleece on the other. Ideal for situations where one partner may have pain that requires the BioMag magnets, while the other partner may prefer plain wool.

IS A TWIN MATTRESS TOPPER SUITABLE ON A LARGER MATTRESS?

Not a good idea, because a small underlay on a big bed is likely to move and wrinkle during the night.

It’s best to get the correct size – that’s why we have a fitted Woolrest BioMag magnetic mattress pad available for every size of mattress, from Twin through to California King.

HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR WOOLREST BIOMAG MATTRESS TOPPER?

The simplest way to look after it is to air it regularly in the sun, and you should also gently vacuum it to get rid of dead skin cells etc, and to reinvigorate the wool.

It can be spot-cleaned using mild soap and warm water, and then dried in the sun.

Sometimes you may decide you want to wash the whole thing – and you can, but not at home, because they’re too bulky for your domestic washer. It should be gently washed in a commercial washing machine, using a mild detergent and warm water.

Remember, temperature is critical. DO NOT exceed 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Use conditioner in the final rinse cycle. Line dry, or tumble dry on cool setting only. DO NOT overdry – the moisture level of wool must not be less than 10%, otherwise it can become dry and brittle.

Many people simply put a cheap duvet cover over their BioMag, cut holes in the duvet cover for the elastics to go through, and then simply take the cover off when they want to wash it.

ARE YOUR MATTRESS PADS AND TOPPERS ULTRA-FRESH TREATED?

We do not treat our mattress products with Ultra-Fresh or any other antimicrobial/antimite chemicals.

This process is used for wools which are not washable – the product comes off in washing, and is not permanent.

All wools used in Woolrest and Woolrest BioMag products are washable wools.
